  THE BEGINNINGS

In 1958, Dr. Norberto Quirno (1904-1972), a well-known physician in Argentina, was the chief of the XX ward at Hospital Rivadavia in Buenos Aires. This ward of Internal Medicine was part of the University of Buenos
Aires (UBA) School of Medicine, where he gathered an outstanding group of disciples.

Most of them had teaching links with the University of Buenos Aires and postgraduate degrees from important national and international academic centers. Apart from their professional skills, they were a group of friends who shared high ideals and a commitment to community service. This group of qualified physicians offered their patients the highest standard of care at that time. Their main concern, however, was to create a dynamic institution able to overcome the natural restraints of the individual clinical practice, thus providing the community with the best medical care ever dreamed.
