  RESEARCH

Part of CEMIC institutional mission is the development of scientific research. CEMIC has always made sound contributions to the community, such as the research of the Chagas-Mazza disease, the Argentine Hemorrhagic Disease or “mal de los rastrojos”, and the studies of immunology of rheumatic diseases, chronic renal diseases and human reproduction. Several branches of clinical, basic and experimental research gradually developed from these early studies. Recently, there has been a steady increase in the clinical and epidemiological researches on congenital anomalies in Latin America, heart disease risk factors in our community, cognitive disorders, cancer genetic epidemiology, the intellectual development of children from poor regions of Argentina, and new technology for assisted vaginal delivery. The scientific activities are carried out in the institution itself and are supported by organizations such as the National Academy of Medicine, local and foreign universities, municipal and provincial hospitals, and are sponsored by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Researches (CONICET), the World Health Organization, and national and foreign foundations.
CEMIC Research Unit is one of CONICET Affiliated Units.

CEMIC IRB has been recognized by the Department of Health and Human Services (Office for Human Research Protections) of the US. This has brought about a large interaction with researchers and directors of important projects in Latin America.

In 1998 CEMIC received the Platinum Konex Award given to institutions aimed at Scientific and Technologic Research.
